The Christiano brothers have been making movies for over a decade. In that time they’ve produced such well known films as “The Time Changer” and their most recent film, “The Jonathan Sperry Story”. Rich joined me on the Culture Connection and said some pretty strong statements – one of them being, “Entertainment is the #1 drug in America.” I think you’ll be challenged by Rich and what he has to say. Sociologist Bradley R.E. Wright couldn’t believe the statistics that are thrown around so haphazardly about the Christian Faith. Are believers more prone to divorce than non-believers? Are kids in school walking away from the faith in droves? Wright did his own research and found out that the data is just simply incorrect. He has an alternate view in his new book. LISTEN HERE
When David A.R. White came to Hollywood to be an actor, he quickly discovered Hollywood was a far cry from his Mennonite upbringing. Since then he’s starred in, written, directed and produced numerous films and his latest one, Holyman Undercover is sort of auto-biographical. Anyway, it’s FUNNY. LISTEN HERE.
You may not have heard of Louise DuArt, but you’ve no doubt heard of the voices insider her. She’s one of America’s most renowned impressionists. With over 100 voices at her disposal, she’s become a comedic hit and has toured with Tim Conway and Harvey Corman. Louise and her husband have also been doing ministry work for couples. You’ll enjoy this interview. LISTEN HERE
Sing it with me… “You take the good, you take the bad, you take ’em both and there you have the facts of life… the facts of life”… If you’re like me, you tuned in every week in the early 80’s to see what crazy situations the girls (Natalie, Tutti, Jo and Blair) were getting into under the careful advice of Ms. Garrett.
It’s been a while since The Facts of Life aired, and since that time, Blair, Lisa Whelchel has been hard at work encouraging mom’s with the Gospel. We caught up with her on the Culture Connection. LISTEN HERE
There was always something a bit different about Victoria Jackson. Before she was cast on Saturday Night Live, she was a regular on the Johnny Carson show – reciting poetry while standing on her head. After warming the hearts of Lorne Michaels at SNL, she began a career in improv and worked alongside comedic greats like Dana Carvey, Mike Myers and eh-em… Al Franken. As it turns out, Victoria was a dedicated believer and always felt that SNL was her mission field. Here’s here story. LISTEN HERE.
You may remember the name Ben Carson as the first surgeon to successfully separate conjointed twins who were joined at the skull. It was a huge story a few years back. What you may not recall is that Ben Carson is a committed Christian with a tremndous story. His story has been brought to life on the big screen by Cuba Gooding, Jr. in the movie “Gifted Hands.” It was my joy to catch up with Dr. Carson just before he headed into surgery at Johns Hopkins. All too frequently, Christian activists at both ends of the political spectrum see power as the primary instrument for saving the world. “If we just had the power,” they say, “we could set everything right.” I want to say to them, “I wonder why didn’t Jesus think of that?”
In Choose Love, Not Power, scholar and activist Tony Campolo examines Jesus’ life to uncover a “theology of power” for His followers today. Dr. Campolo writes, “Jesus chose a harder way. He chose the way of the cross. He would save the world not through power, but through sacrificial love.” This is a guidebook for a Church that has struggled for centuries to follow the Savior’s example. Are you ready to choose the harder way?
I’m a highlander – in fact my roots are Scottish. There’s not much surfing on Loch Ness. However, when God calls you to reach those in your sphere of influence. You have to listen. That’s exactly what Britt Merrick did. His father was the creator of the world famous Channel Island Surfboard Company and Britt was in line to stay in the family business until God got involved. This interview tells the story… LISTEN HERE
By the way, we didn’t have time to get to his new book BIG GOD. But, the story behind it is unbelievable. When Britt was writing a book about people in the Bible who had amazing faith, he was faced with a crisis of faith of his own. His 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with cancer. With a tumor the size of a football in her – the Merricks developed a faith like they could have never imagined. Here’s that story…
In 2003 Jody Hice was thrust into the public arena when the ACLU instigated a lawsuit against the Barrow County Georgia Board of Commissioners to force removal of a display of the Ten Commandments from the county’s Courthouse. Viewing this as an attack upon the freedom of religious expression and upon the cultural and spiritual heritage of our nation, Jody founded Ten Commandments – Georgia, Inc. to raise money to pay for the county’s legal defense, saving taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Shortly thereafter, Jody established Let Freedom Ring Ministries, Inc. to continue defending constitutional liberty. LFR sponsors The Jody Hice Show and Hope for America Rallies across the nation.
In our interview together, Jody discusses why Christians MUST be involved in politics and how he’s taking the next BOLD step. LISTEN HERE
Kathy Ireland got her start as a supermodel – mostly known for her numerous appearances in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit editions. However, early in her career she found Christ and has turned her celebrity status into a platform for global change. This two part interview features her testimony of conversion to Christ and some of the challenges she faced in the world of modeling, followed by what God is doing now through her ministry.
Tom Doyle has a passion for both Muslims and Jews and travels to the Middle East frequently. He reports that in recent years amazing numbers of people in the Middle East-Muslims and Jews alike, have come to Christ. He has witnessed this profound reality throughout the Middle East, and at the heart of his book, Breakthrough, are the breathtaking firsthand accounts of what God is doing.
Bob Hamer was with the FBI for over 20 years. While there he had to run in some of the seediest circles imaginable to expose the truth and but the bad guys away. And he was a committed Christian. You’ll enjoy this real-life ‘Jack Bauer’ as he discusses faith and the FBI as well as his discussion about his new book, Enemies Among Us. LISTEN HERE
My guest, Rebecca Hagelin is with the Heritage Foundation and is quite outspoken on culture in America – in this video, she discusses the explicit imagery propagated by the media – in my interview, she discusses Atheism in America. LISTEN HERE
A few years back I became aware of the metal group “KORN”. It seemed every teenager in the mall who had a variety of hardware on their clothes and body was wearing a KORN T-shirt. My impression of the group was not favorable, but admittedly based on prejudice. When it seemed KORN was it it’s peak – something changed. It’s lead guitarist, Brian “head” Welch quit the band on the verge of a 20 million $ signing bonus with Sony Records. Why? Because he found Jesus.
I have to admit – I was skeptical of how this interview would go. I was expecting some shallow responses to my questions. I was wrong – and I repented of my judgmental attitude. Brian demonstrates a deep commitment to Christ and a humble spirit of discipleship. You really must listen!
It was a joy to speak with producer David Nixon as he discussed his new film, Letters to God. Nixon was a part of the team that brought you Facing the Giants and Fireproof and in Letters, he tells the true story of a child with cancer who writes gracious letters to all of his friends. The mailman who delivers the letters gets impacted too. It was quite an interview.
I haven’t had so much fun in an interview in quite a long time. Bone Hampton has a great story of how he’s allowing God to use him and his talents to reach people. It’s a story that applies to all of us. Enjoy.
I stumbled upon a recent series of articles written by Phil Boatwright that were published on Baptist Press. I had never heard of Phil but discovered he’s been doing christian film reviews for over 20 years. In our interview with Phil, we hear what it’s like to review a christian film and some titles to be on the look out for.
I remember as a young man wanting to “charge Hell with a water pistol.” Some of my arsenal of tools for evangelism included: My pocket sized Gideon Bible, a wallet full of “Eternal Life” tracks, a good Christian T-Shirt, and if I got any harassment, I would keep a copy of Jay Sekulow’s “Student’s Bill of Rights.” For years, Jay Sekulow has lead the charge against the injustices suffered by those in the Christian community. And now, 20 years later, his son Jordon takes that mission world-wide. You’ll enjoy hearing from Jordan Sekulow in this interview. << LISTEN HERE >>
Dr. Jim Garlow has been a guest on the Culture Connection many times and always brings a strong message of expertise. This time, Dr. Garlow delivers a sermon he recently preached at has church (Skyline Wesleyan Church in San Diego, CA) that outlines the influence the church has had in society over a 400 year period. Essentially, Garlow asserts that we are now a persecuted church and we must take action to bring revival to America. << LISTEN HERE >>
As you watch the 2010 Olympics, keep an eye out for John Napier who’ll be competing in the 2-man and 4 man bobsled competition. And if the camera shows it, you’ll most likely see his team praying before they slide. My interview with John was especially neat because the catalyst for him coming to faith in Christ was my old college roommate and the best man in my wedding, Derek Spain who is now chaplain to the Olympians in Lake Placid New York and pastor of Lake Placid Baptist Church. Enjoy this interview and GO TEAM USA!
I’ve never been so impressed with a political figure and their strong faith-based message as I was when interviewing Rep. Paul Broun of GA’s 10th district. His message is one of a return to The Constitution as it was originally intended as explained in The Federalist Papers. He is sick of outlandish spending and he’s more frustrated with the lack of involvement from The Church. One statement he made rings out to me, “I believe God is calling people all over this country to serve in politics.” I had never thought about that as a calling from God. He exemplifies that calling to me and hopefully this interview will inspire you to listen to that still small voice that might be telling you the same thing.
The first time I heard of Jeff Allen, my dad had brought one of his comedy videos on our annual family vacation. I’ll never forget laughing until my side’s ached as he talked about the gritty truth of family life. After winning my heart through his humor, he touched as he told of his own personal struggles. Jeff is a picture of what God’s grace can do when communicated through a loving Christian friend. He and his wife were literally 10 minutes from filing for divorce. He was bankrupt and an alcoholic. When he was at bottom he remembered a resource a friend had giving him months ago – some Bible Study tapes. With no other possible solutions, Jeff looked to Jesus Christ and was saved. It was a joy hearing the sincerity in Jeff’s voice during this interview.
